This non-conducting ceramic structure with partially open boundary is full of mysteries in terms of its resonance behavior and feeding mechanisms. This talk will address some unveiled mysteries of DRA modes and possibilities of realizing novel antennas and feeds which could be broadly categorized into a contrasting pair – (1) unknown modes in known DRAs and (2) known modes in unknown DRAs. Category-1 describes a new radiating mode that was successfully demonstrated in a cylindrical geometry and its subsequent growth in terms of various applications. The challenge of addressing its boundary conditions and developments of advanced feeding mechanisms will be discussed. Category-2 deals with a different concept of hybrid/composite geometries where our known modes can be strategically employed in generating useful radiation patterns. They are primarily meant for low-profile wireless device. This ‘mode-reconfiguring technique’ will be addressed elaborately focusing on the potential scopes for the future research and development. In addition\, this talk will try to address a few state-of-the-art techniques such as glue-free mount for DRA and a promising metal-dielectric hybrid subarray.
