IEEE Education Society Standards Development and Virtual Graduate Study Consortium Kick off Workshop
December 14, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Description: This one day workshop is an opportunity to learn more about the IEEE SA standards sponsored by IEEE Education Society (EdSoc), the IEEE SA Std. 1876-2019 on Networked Smart Learning Objects for Online Laboratories and IEEE SA P2834 Standard for Secure and Trusted Learning Systems co-sponsored by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and IEEE Computer Society / Learning Technology Standards Committee. This event offers to students, faculty and industry members the opportunity to join the approved project of the creation of EdSoc Virtual Graduate Study Consortium (VGSC) and motivate their future participation in IEEE SA working groups. What is the IEEE Education Society Virtual Graduate Student Consortium Project? On June 22, 2021, the IEEE Education Society Board of Directors approved a proposal to form a Virtual Graduate Study Consortium (VGSC). The VGSC will not be limited in time and space to a particular conference. It will be a virtual organization (VO) initiated and sponsored by the IEEE Education Society with other IEEE organizational units (Societies/Councils) as well as academic and industry partners. The VGSC will be built using a participatory action research approach adopted for the development of the first IEEE Standards Association standard (IEEE SA Std. 1876 – 2019) on Networked Smart Learning Objects for Online Laboratories. This approach is found to be suitable due to the evolving nature of technological infrastructures based on interactive devices and innovative pedagogies such as contextualized learning, mentoring, and smart tutoring systems. The human mentoring actors for the project would be volunteer teacher-researchers and members of IEEE including the IEEE Education Society members as well as other partners, especially members of the standards working groups. We also count on all participants in the various committees such as the IEEE Transactions on Education Editors and the IEEE Transaction on Learning Technologies. In this way, we will co-build or use the environments and tools necessary to achieve the goals that are useful to higher education candidates around the world.
